Wireless Charger Certifications Explained: CE, FCC, RoHS and Qi for Global Sourcing

Certification is the part of sourcing that gets ignored until a shipment is held at customs or a marketplace delists a product. For chargers and cables — electrical products that touch the mains and people's phones — compliance is not optional. Here is a plain-English guide to what each mark means and where you need it.
CE — Europe
The CE mark is required to sell in the European Economic Area. It signals conformity with EU safety, health and EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) directives. Without it, your product cannot legally be placed on the EU market.
FCC — United States
The FCC mark covers electromagnetic interference for electronic devices sold in the US. Chargers and wireless products must not interfere with other electronics and must pass FCC testing before sale.
RoHS and REACH — materials safety
- RoHS restricts hazardous substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium in electronics — required across the EU and expected in many other markets
- REACH governs chemicals in materials and is especially relevant for cables and plastic housings
Qi and Qi2 — wireless charging
For wireless chargers, Qi (and now Qi2) certification from the Wireless Power Consortium confirms the product meets the interoperability and safety requirements of the standard. Retailers and platforms increasingly expect it, and it reassures customers that the charger is genuinely compatible.
Which do you need?
As a rule: CE for Europe, FCC for the US, RoHS/REACH almost everywhere, and Qi/Qi2 for wireless products. The right answer depends on exactly which countries and platforms you sell on, so confirm the full list with your manufacturer before production — not after.
